Cell phones’ existence changed the entire world leading to massive purchases and upgrades for newer equipment with fancier looks, style and many electronic advantages. Back in the earlier years preparing for travel would mean one has to purchase a handheld video game like the Gameboy, a GPS for navigation, an mp3 player for music, a camera for taking pictures, a dvd player for watching videos and a whole bunch of other equipment for the journey. However, nowadays all you would need is a smart phone and some snacks and that’s about it. Now Blackberry is one of the major cell phone companies contributing to such travels in an all in one package – the Blackberry Bold 9930.
Purchasing equipment separately can put a hole through your pockets or bank account, each and every dollar hurts. Why go through such a major investment when a minor investment is truly the key. Needless to say the Blackberry Bold 9930 is a cell phone nonetheless with cell phone capabilities like SMS, call, MMS, E-mail and instant messaging. It provides the user with tools including calendars, voice memos, a calculator, compass and a various amount of downloadable applications. A built in GPS supporting Blackberry Maps is also provided as a luxury tool to be able to navigate without hesitation or fear of ending up in a desert.
Another great tool is the built in 5 MP camera with advantages such as face detection, an LED flash permitting flash photography, geo tagging to find the location of a specific taken picture and image stabilization. It may not be a professional set but it’s good enough to get the job done and then some. We are also able to take videos at 720p and may share them with friends and family. Now of course that would mean we can take as many pictures and videos as we want as long as we don’t exceed the 8GB storage space, in which case an expansion would be required using a micro SD or SDHC allowing the external memory to go up to a maximum capacity of 32 GB. That goes for media as well.
Speaking of media, the 9930 can read several formats eliminating the need to convert media constantly. The music player reads MP3, eAAC+, WMA and WAV whereas the video player reads MP4, H.263, H.264 and WMV formats. There goes the need for an mp3 and dvd players, a camera, a GPS and camcorder. We can also add games to the category since the majority of downloadable applications are games. The rest of the tools are considerably inexpensive but a little bit goes a long way sometimes. The most expensive tool other than the GPS would be a laptop or a separate device to surf the web or check mail. All of the online credit goes to Blackberry’s OS version 7.0 as well as the 3G network applied by the data service.
Including the dual band wi-fi 802.11 b/g/n, the 9930 completes the list of necessary tools for traveling, all we need now is a cell phone that can give us food and beverages, but that may not happen yet. The best these incredibly intelligent smart phones, including the 9930, can do is find out where we can buy food with a complete list of nearby locations so close enough. But until they can feed and shelter us, it is undoubtedly a much better idea to travel lightweight with less equipment surrounding us.
